My sister,Tammy, has some eye because this doe was quite the find! Tammy was offered this doe in trade for a couple of market wethers, she in turn offered her to me. I approached the deal with a bit of trepidation as Calla was a never freshened 3 year old - and, she quite frankly looked like a buck! Boy, am I ever glad she came to be a part of herd - now that we got her settled and freshen - what a delight! This doe renewed my love for hand milking with her plump teats, large offices, and unreal capacity. This girl really fills the milk pail! She has a beautiful body to boot, being one of the largest does in the herd she is long, level and stands on excellent feet and legs. Judging by what she looks like this year, we simply can't wait to see what next year brings. We saved her doe kid to add to show string for next year as well.

Calla took Grand Champion Milking Sr. Doe at the Northern Indiana Open Dairy Goat Show. We couldn't be happier - as it was her first time out! Calla ended her year with a fair placing of 3rd at State Fair behind two outstanding does.

PUG as she is lovingly referred to around here, is without a doubt one of my favorite does. She is the one doe that everyone says is "SO CUTE" when they visit. She has a personality that only a mother could love, and I do. PUG had an exceptional year in 2007 with continual comments on her excellent feet and legs and level top line. Karen Smith of Lady K Alpines told us that PUG's "type" embodied what the ADGA is looking for in regards to Nigerians after placing her first in her class at the MDGS show last year. Being a first freshener she didn't have an abundance of capacity - but what was there was snuggly attached. This year we would like to see increased capacity and with that, improved teat placement as more capacity can sometimes provide. PUG is going to be evaulated after freshening to make she that her mamary system fits with what are goals are here - not to get overly sentimental but I am hoping they do, as her somewhat stubborn antics have stole my heart! We'll keep you posted.
